Rick Rack Ruby exists to encourage girls to sew!
My name is Laura Kluvo. I have been married to Ken since 1980. We have five children.
My grandmother gave me a sewing machine when I was in high school and I have been
sewing ever since.
I have had many sewing ventures over the years starting with being Co-Chairman of my
Church Bazaar when I was only 18 years old! In college, a friend and I made and sold
Christmas decorations in our dorm rooms. We called it "Dec The Halls."
Over the years my projects have included garments, home decorator projects, craft
designs and Christmas ornaments. I have written twelve books - published by Plaid,
Leisure Arts and Banar Designs. My projects have appeared in Better Homes and
Gardens Christmas Ideas, Santa Claus, Holiday Crafts, and Victorian Treasures. My
designs have also appeared in McCalls Neeedlework and Crafts, Crafts Magazine, Crafts
With Simplicity, McCall's Christmas Bazaar, and many other publications. I have about 300
published designs. In 1986 one of my projects was awarded the "design of the year"
designation by Profitable Craft Merchandising - a leading craft publication at the time. My
family was featured in the 1987 Edition of Oxmoor House's Christmas Ideas. I also had my
own column in Craft & Home magazine. It was called "Laura's Latest." I made up projects
using the newest products and techniques on the market.
But let's fast-forward to today ! I have always enjoyed sewing for my daughter, Kaitlin. (I
have four boys and one girl!) When she was a freshman in high school I realized that no
one was teaching sewing any more. I started offering classes out of my house and we
have had a lot of fun. We've done fur bags, bags made from blue jeans, Bags made from
neckties, skirts made from neckties, ruffled mini-skirts, scarfles and many other delightful
projects. I've been teaching for several years now and several of my students have
become very skilled! I'm so proud of them.
Currently I am selling my designs at several local boutiques. I'm always working on
something new. Check my blog for the latest!
